ARMtour (Athletes as Role Models)

The ARMtour program uses sport and high profile athletes as Role Models to encourage Aboriginal children in remote communities to stay in school, lead healthy lifestyles and make positive choices in life.

Our teams of athletes visit remote communities around Australia, working with the schools to deliver educational, health and sporting programs. During our visits the ARMtour role models seek to convey four simple messages to remote Indigenous youth.

Rugby League:

For over ten years NASCA has delivered Rugby League development programs to Indigenous youth in regional and remotes areas throughout NSW and QLD. Visits to schools and communities have been conducted for the purpose of introducing role models to young Indigenous people, to deliver messages of positive lifestyle choices and the importance of education, and to conduct clinics to give young people the opportunity to play rugby league with high profile players.

Scholarship & Mentoring Program:

NASCA offers four placements in the Scholarship and Mentor Program annually.

The program focuses on Sport and Education, and is offered to Indigenous youth who show dedication to study, and great potential in sport and as future leaders.

Cricket:

NASCA’s cricket program focuses on Education and Cricket Development in Remote Indigenous Communities throughout the Northern Territory in the Central Desert, the Tiwi Islands and East Arnhem Land.

Netball:

During 2006 – 07 NASCA has funded Indigenous Development Officers in Dubbo, NSW and Perth, WA. Our support has enabled netball programs to be delivered throughout western NSW and in various regions in WA.

Sporting Chance:

The NASCA Sporting Chance Academy, which is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science & Training, uses sport and sports role models to encourage Indigenous youth to value education, stay in school and increase their post school opportunities.
