What We Do:

Sporting Chance

The NASCA Sporting Chance Academies, which are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations, use sport and sports role models to encourage Indigenous youth to value education, stay in school and increase their post school opportunities.

The program focuses on assisting Indigenous youth, living in the regions of South Sydney and Far West NSW. Working in conjunction with the schools and our program partners, the main objectives our program seeks to achieve include:

  • Increasing school attendance and retention rates
  • Strengthening student engagement with school and improving attitudes to schooling
  • Improving general skills such as teamwork, leadership and communication
  • Improving opportunities for post-school pathways
  • Improving the health & well-being of students, including self-esteem and confidence
  • Improving parental & community involvement with the school & their children’s education
  • Promote and support positive learning experiences that foster success

Our program partners who are helping NASCA to deliver the program include the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME), Western Region NSW Department of Education and Training, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Sydney University Sport, NSW Rugby League, Redfern Waterloo Authority, Netball NSW and Aboriginal Employment Strategy.
