What We Do:

Rugby League

For over ten years NASCA has delivered Rugby League development programs to Indigenous youth in regional and remotes areas throughout NSW and QLD. Visits to schools and communities have been conducted to:

  • Deliver messages about positive lifestyle choices and the importance of education
  • Run rugby league clinics to give young people the opportunity to play with high profile NRL athletes
  • Introduce role models to young Indigenous people

“We’ll Find You” ran successfully for ten years as a national initiative aimed at identifying, encouraging and developing young Aboriginal Rugby League players, particularly those in rural and remote areas.

The NASCA Rugby League Development Program was NASCA’s founding program. NASCA also organised the first overseas tour to the UK by an all Aboriginal Rugby League side, as well as the Aboriginal “Dream Team” in the World Sevens competitions.

Today our Rugby League program is called The NASCA Challenge. The Challenge involves Indigenous students participating in a 4 day Rugby League camp delivered by NRL clubs such as the North Queensland Cowboys, as a reward for improved performance at school. The students also take a tour of the local stadium and facilities, and participate in goal setting and positive choice activity sessions.
